Overview

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791) was an Austrian composer born in Salzburg who worked mainly in Vienna. Showing exceptional gifts as a performer and composer from childhood, he traveled widely throughout Europe and helped shape the style of the Classical period. His music ranges across symphonies, concertos, chamber music, sacred works, and opera, combining clarity of form with graceful melodies, refined harmony, and vivid emotional expression. Operas such as The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, and The Magic Flute, along with his piano concertos, remain central to the repertoire. His piano music includes numerous sonatas and sets of variations, as well as the early pieces preserved in the “Notebook for Nannerl” and the 10 Variations on a Theme from Gluck’s opera, K.455. Together, these works trace both his artistic development and the variety of his pianistic expression.
