Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ： 9 Variations on a Minuet by Duport K.573

This work is built on a minuet by Duport, followed by nine variations. Its approachable and finely balanced theme unfolds into a wide range of expressions as each variation alters the register, accompaniment patterns, and treatment of rhythm. Beyond tracing the differences between the variations, it is also rewarding to notice how the theme’s metrical character and phrase contours are carried forward. In performance, ornaments and small figures should be presented clearly without rushing, while the roles of the right and left hands should be carefully coordinated to maintain a balanced texture. Bringing out the character of each variation while preserving a continuous overall flow allows the work’s refined dialogue and structural beauty to emerge.
