🇭🇺Franz Liszt ： Winterreise (Schubert) S.561 R.246 – Erstarrung

This work is Liszt’s arrangement for solo piano of a Schubert song, in which the vocal-like melody and the constantly moving accompaniment combine to convey urgency and inner unrest. A highlight is the way the musical tension rises as the melody is presented and developed, contrasted with passages in which the flow subsides. In performance, it is important to bring out the melody while keeping the accompaniment’s detailed motion even and controlled. Careful balance between the voices, along with clear phrasing and dynamic shaping, helps convey the emotions expressed through the song’s words.
