Edvard Grieg ： Piano Pieces after Own Songs No.3 I Love You Op.41-3

This is an intimate, lyrical piano miniature based on one of Grieg’s songs. A long, songful melody takes the central role, while gently moving accompanying chords support the texture and add soft shades of color as the piece unfolds. From the opening, which has the quality of an intimate address, to the passages where the melody rises and broadens in expression, careful attention to the breathing of each phrase creates a natural flow. The melody should not be allowed to disappear into the accompaniment; the right-hand line needs to be brought out clearly. Use the pedal in accordance with the harmonic changes to avoid blurring, and shape the affectionate, vocal character with subtle dynamics and flexible yet unforced tempo.
