Dmitri Borisovich Kabalevsky ： Lyrical Tunes No.3 Variation Op.91

The third piece from Kabalevsky’s Lyrical Tunes, Op. 91. As its title suggests, it is a variation that begins with a single theme and develops its character by changing the movement of the notes, the rhythms, and the placement of the sonorities. A key point of interest is to hear the contrast between the sections while preserving the memory of the theme. Bringing out the melody clearly, balancing the accompaniment and inner voices, and naturally connecting the dynamic changes with a flexible sense of tempo allow the lyricism within the concise writing to emerge. It is rewarding to compare the opening material with its later transformations and remain attentive to the changing tone colors.
