Franz Peter Schubert ： Variations on a Theme from Hérold’s Marie in C-Dur D 908 Op.82-1

This variation work for piano four hands is based on a theme from Hérold’s opera Marie. While retaining the recognizable outline of the theme, each variation changes the register, accompaniment patterns, and treatment of rhythm, bringing a wide range of expression, from light and graceful passages to fuller sonorities. The performers should carefully define the roles of Primo and Secondo, giving clear shape to exchanges of the melody and overlapping voices.
