Ferruccio Busoni ： Toccata und Fuge (J.S.Bach) d-moll BWV 565

This is Busoni’s transcription for piano of Bach’s organ work. The weighty sonority and dramatic tension of D minor run throughout the piece, which moves from a free and brilliant toccata-like opening into a fugue where the subject is passed among the different voices. In the closing section, the strong momentum returns, creating a grand effect. The performance should aim for thick, organ-like chords and a clearly layered texture, while preserving clarity in the rapid passages and shaping each section with bold dynamics and natural breathing. These contrasts are among the work’s main attractions.
