🇺🇸William L. Gillock ： Sonatina

Gillock’s “Sonatina” is a poised and lively work with clear rhythms and an approachable melody. Short phrases seem to answer one another, while the contrast between brisk and more relaxed passages gives the piece a natural sense of shape. Its appeal lies in the smooth flow created by the exchange of melodic ideas and changes in rhythm. In performance, it is important to maintain a steady sense of pulse, keep the articulation light and even, and bring the melody slightly forward of the accompaniment. Careful attention to dynamic changes and a sense of breathing through the ends of phrases will highlight the charm of its concise structure.
