🇫🇷Francis Jean Marcel Poulenc ： Novelette on a theme by Manuel de Falla

This character piece draws on Spanish-tinged melodic color and rhythm, reflecting Poulenc’s characteristic refinement and wit. A clear theme reappears in varied forms, and the contrast between crisp, sharply articulated passages and more songful moments shapes the work’s expressive character. Highlights include the unexpected accents and harmonic colors that emerge amid its light-footed motion. In performance, it is important to balance the voices, keep the rhythm precise, and give even short note values a sense of direction. Rather than exaggerating the dynamic changes, preserve the bright humor and subtle shading so that the theme’s appeal comes fully to the fore.
