This is one of Paderewski’s best-known miniatures, combining an elegant dance character with an appealing melodic beauty. Within the poised triple-meter flow of a minuet, the right-hand melody unfolds in a singing manner while the left-hand accompaniment supports the graceful sense of pulse. The contrasting character of the main section and middle section is also worth noting. The melody should be allowed to resonate fully without making the accompaniment too heavy; carefully shaping the phrasing and natural dynamics brings out the refined character of the dance. Use the pedal sparingly, changing it with the harmony so that the sound remains clear.
