Ludwig van Beethoven ： Kakadu Variations Op.121a

Beethoven’s variations for piano, violin, and cello are based on a melody from an opera by Wenzel Müller. Beginning with a familiar and lively theme, the work develops through changes in rhythm, figuration, and texture, bringing out a rich dialogue among the three instruments. A key point for listeners is the contrast between the characters of the individual variations after the theme has been clearly presented.
