Schubert’s Impromptu in A-flat major is a work in which gentle lyricism and light, flowing motion exist in harmony. It can broadly be understood as a structure consisting of a main section, a contrasting middle section, and a return of the main material, with the right-hand melody naturally emerging above the fluid accompaniment.
