🇷🇺Dmitri Dmitriyevich Shostakovich ： Dances of the Dolls No.5 Hurdy-Gurdy Waltz

Hurdy-Gurdy Waltz is a miniature marked by a light waltz pulse and humorous gestures. Its approachable charm, suggesting a doll spinning in dance, is paired with a simple, lively character reminiscent of a mechanical instrument. Listening for the exchange of short phrases and the return of music with a similar character helps reveal the unity of the piece. In performance, it is important to maintain the flow of the three-beat meter without making the melody too heavy, shaping its playful expression through light accents and clear rhythm. Avoiding haste and allowing room for the small movements brings out its appealing dance-like character.
