Ottorino Respighi ： Ancient Airs and Dances Suite No.1 Passo Mezzo and Mascherada

This is the concluding movement of Respighi’s suite, in which the character of old dances is transformed into a modern sonority. The measured “Passo Mezzo” gives way to “Mascherada,” evoking a masked dance, and the two contrasting sections create a vivid change of character. In the first section, the melody should be shaped with poise while the accompaniment maintains a restrained pulse. In the second, bring out crisp rhythms and lively momentum, while preserving clarity and transparency in the sound.
