The free, speech-like manner of the Introduction gives way to a Capriccio that makes use of brilliant, Paganini-inspired virtuosity, allowing the listener to enjoy the change of character and its theatrical effect. In the rapid passages, keep the notes even and clearly articulated rather than letting speed take over. In the Introduction, shape the pauses and the resonance of the chords with care; in the Capriccio, maintain lightness and sharp accents while balancing the voices so that the melody remains clear. The piece calls for more than a display of technique: each section should have its own expressive character.
