🇧🇷Heitor Villa-Lobos ： Practical Guide Book 1 No.2 High Tide

“High Tide” is a piano miniature from Book 1 of Villa-Lobos’s Practical Guide. It invites the listener to attend to the layering of sounds and the changing dynamics suggested by its title, while sensing shifts of flow and moments of intensification within its concise span. In performance, keep the movement of each voice clear rather than allowing it to be obscured, and avoid forcing the volume even when the sonority grows. Use the pedal carefully to prevent blurring and clarify harmonic changes, while shaping phrases with a natural breath and a gradual sense of build-up. First, practice slowly to organize the layers of sound; then, after gaining an overview of the piece’s rise and fall, settle on a tempo that preserves its flow and allows its character to emerge.
