Myths is one of Szymanowski's greatest chamber masterpieces, inspired by figures from Greek mythology. The first movement, The Fountain of Arethusa, evokes shimmering water through luminous textures and fluid melodic lines. Narcissus turns inward, creating an atmosphere of quiet reflection and mysterious beauty, while Dryads and Pan brings the cycle to a dramatic close with its sensual colors, vibrant rhythms, and vivid depiction of the woodland spirits and the god Pan. Throughout the work, impressionistic sonorities, bold harmonies, and constantly shifting tonal colors merge into an extraordinary musical landscape in which violin and piano function as equal partners.
