Igor Fyodorovitch Stravinsky ： Movements

Written for piano and orchestra, this concerto-like work consists of 5 movements. Within a tightly organized serial texture, short motifs, pointillistic sound placements, and sharp rhythms are combined to create contrasting characters from one movement to the next. Rather than sustaining a continuous, lyrical melody, the piano asserts its presence through responses to and contrasts with the orchestra. Performers should precisely grasp the complex changes of meter and remain attentive to the spaces between sounds, including rests.
