The fourth piece, “Coda,” from Lyrical Tunes, Op. 91, is a concluding miniature that gathers a songful melodic quality and a sense of lingering resonance within a concise form. Rather than expanding through a broad development, it gently guides the music toward its close while inviting the listener to follow the melodic flow and shifting harmonies. From the opening, avoid fixing the volume too rigidly, and carefully shape the direction and breathing of each phrase. Keep the inner voices and accompaniment restrained so that the melody can emerge naturally. Toward the end, avoid cutting off the resonance abruptly; control pedal clarity and preserve the lingering sound through the final note to bring out the piece’s character as a coda.
