🇯🇵Toru Takemitsu ： Litany Lento Misterioso

Under the direction “Lento misterioso,” this piano piece unfolds with a quiet sense of tension, making expressive use of the spaces between sounds and their resonances. Melodic fragments and sonorities emerge and recede into silence, while overlapping tones and changes of register shape an ever-shifting soundscape. Rather than emphasizing a sudden flow, the piece invites the listener to attend to the passage of time as if it were breathing. In performance, avoid connecting the sounds too hastily and treat the rests as an integral part of the expression. Use the pedal carefully so that the resonance does not become blurred, and preserve the clarity and inner tension of each note even in soft passages to bring out the mysterious atmosphere.
