One of Toru Takemitsu’s early piano works, this piece unfolds within an extremely slow passage of time, allowing the resonance of each sound and the surrounding silence to be heard. Rather than forming a clearly directed flow, the sounds emerge with space between them, maintaining a quiet tension through the layering of resonance and the way each sound fades. Instead of developing through strong momentum, the piece proceeds through a succession of brief sound units and pauses, making the texture of each moment a central point of interest. In performance, it is important not to hurry the sounds and to keep their outlines clear even with restrained touch. Use the pedal only to the extent that the resonance remains transparent, listen carefully from the beginning of each sound through its disappearance, and give the silences time to breathe so that the mysterious atmosphere can emerge.
