Enrique Granados ： Goyescas Part 1 Fandango of the Candil

The third piece of Part 1 of Granados’s suite Goyescas. Centered on a lively rhythm reminiscent of the Spanish fandango, it is a work rich in heat and shadow, evoking a scene illuminated by lamplight. Dance-like passages alternate with lyrical expression, while sharp accents, delicate ornamentation, and wide dynamic contrasts shape the music. In performance, it is important to maintain the forward drive of the beat while allowing a natural flexibility that follows the breathing of the phrases, bringing the melody clearly above the inner voices and accompaniment. Pedaling should avoid blurring the sonority; contrasting the delicacy of flickering lamplight with the strength of the dance brings out the work’s appeal.
