🇺🇸William L. Gillock ： Cuckoo Song

William L. Gillock’s “Cuckoo Song” is a light and approachable miniature for students, featuring cheerful melodies and playful calls that suggest the song of a cuckoo. Short phrases seem to answer one another, while subtle changes in the musical progression add variety within its consistent character. The highlights are the clear shape of the melody and the buoyancy of the rhythm. Begin by playing evenly and distinctly, then bring out the contrast between the calling phrases and their responses to make the musical flow clear. Maintain the lively character without rushing the ends of phrases, shaping the piece with natural musical breathing.
