The fifth movement of the Criollo Dance Suite, this piece is marked by the lightness of “Scherzando” and the driving force of the coda, “Presto ed energico” (very fast and forceful). Its appeal lies in maintaining the vitality of a dance while shifting in character from the scherzando to the coda and building tension toward the close. In performance, it is important not to let the speed obscure the accents and rhythmic contours of the individual voices. The buoyant sense of leaping motion should be contrasted with powerful articulation, while the coda maintains its momentum and keeps every note clear.
