Anatoly Konstantinovich Lyadov : 6 Pieces Fugue Op.3-3

Type:Piece-collection Collection:6 Pieces Key: g-moll Duration:2:00

Post Share

The third piece in Lyadov’s Six Pieces, this fugue is a concise and tightly worked contrapuntal composition in which several voices pass the subject from one to another. Its appeal lies not only in following the movement of each voice, but also in the contrast between the tension created by overlapping sonorities and passages where the musical flow settles. In performance, the voice presenting the subject should remain clear while the accompanying voices are kept light. Crisp articulation that preserves the independence of each note, together with natural phrasing that does not interrupt the overall flow, is essential. Pedaling should be used sparingly, within limits that prevent the sound from becoming blurred, so that the interplay of the voices can be heard with care.
