🇫🇷Erik Satie ： 3 Sarabandes No.1 in f-moll

No. 1 from Satie’s 3 Sarabandes is a miniature that creates its distinctive tension not through sudden developments or brilliant virtuosity, but through weighty chordal writing and ample space. Within a measured pulse suggestive of the sarabande’s steady progress, changes in sonority emerge gradually, with each phrase quietly building upon the last. Its particular appeal lies in the shifting color of the chords and in the overall breathing of the music, including its silences. In performance, the melody should remain clear while the balance with the inner voices is carefully controlled, and the pedal changed with care so that the sound does not become blurred. Avoid rushing the tempo, listen to the resonance, and draw out the expression contained within its restraint.
