Ernst von Dohnányi ： 2 Waltzes Treasure Waltz (from The Gypsy Baron)

This work is Dohnányi’s arrangement for solo piano of the “Treasure Waltz” from Johann Strauss II’s operetta The Gypsy Baron. Centered on the waltz’s graceful and flowing theme, the music unfolds as the roles of melody and accompaniment shift. Its appeal lies in shaping the right-hand melody expressively, maintaining the light, dance-like accompaniment in the left hand, and bringing out the changing character of each passage. Rather than letting the brilliance become superficial, performers should preserve the flow of the beat while carefully attending to the melody’s breathing and the resonance of the chords, allowing both the festive charm of the original and the radiance of the piano arrangement to emerge.
