Built on the regular motion of a dance in triple meter, this minuet comes alive through well-balanced phrases and a light rhythmic character. Its melody proceeds clearly and appealingly, while the shaping of phrases and the movement toward cadences reveal a Classical sense of balance. Each of the opening and closing sections should be presented with care; in repeats, avoid mechanical duplication and add expression through subtle changes in dynamics and tone color. Let the melody in the right hand sing while keeping the left hand restrained and clear, and treat rests and breaks between notes lightly to bring out the minuet’s graceful character.
