Franz Liszt ： 12 lieder (Schubert) S.558 – Rastlose Liebe

This work is Liszt’s arrangement for solo piano of a Schubert song. True to the sense of “restless love” suggested by the title, it projects an unbroken forward drive and intense gestures from the outset. While finely moving figures and harmonic tension propel the music onward, the lines that evoke a vocal melody also require lyrical expression. A key point is to keep the overall flow intact, avoid making the dynamic and tempo fluctuations excessive, and bring the melody clearly to the fore.
