Alexander Scriabin ： Sonata No.2 gis-moll Op.19

One of Scriabin’s major early works, this is a dreamlike piano sonata in two movements. The first movement unfolds quietly through melodies and harmonies shaded by the darkness of G-sharp minor, conveying a lyrical, dreamlike quality. The second movement is faster and filled with greater tension, creating a vivid contrast with the preceding movement. In the first movement, it is important to keep the inner voices from being buried and to support the long phrases with a gentle pedal. In the second, clarity and forward momentum in the rapid motion should be maintained while expressing the dynamic contrasts broadly, bringing out the work’s sense of fantasy and exhilaration.
