Robert Schumann ： Piano accompaniment to Bach Cello Suites Anh.O2

This work adds piano accompaniment to Bach’s Cello Suites for solo cello. While respecting the melodic role of the cello and the dance-like flow, the piano adds breadth of sonority and harmonic support, creating a chamber-music experience different from the original. Points to listen for include the character and changes of flow in each piece, the exchanges between cello and piano, and the resonance left after rests. In performance, it is important to control the piano’s volume and pedal so that it does not come too far to the fore, follow the cello’s breathing, and clarify the overlapping voices. Listening carefully to the sonority of each part brings the dialogue between the two instruments into sharper relief.
