🇫🇷Joseph Maurice Ravel ： Pavane pour une infante defunte Piano Duet

Within its gently paced movement, reminiscent of an old dance, this work unfolds Ravel’s refined harmonies and long-breathed melodies. In the piano duet version, the two players pass the melody, accompaniment, and inner colors between one another, creating a richness of sound distinct from the solo version. The listener can savor the changing flow from the quiet opening, through the middle section where the layers of sound gain depth, to the calm restored near the end. The main melody should not be rushed, but should move naturally toward each phrase’s peak, while the accompaniment remains light and transparent. Avoiding a blurred pedal and maintaining a shared sense of breathing are essential to the delicate ensemble and among the performance’s highlights.
