A long-breathed melody in the right hand unfolds over a supporting accompaniment, with the expression gradually deepening as the phrases progress while the overall atmosphere remains restrained. A central point of interest lies in preserving the larger arc and bringing out the peaks of the melody and the changes in harmony. In performance, the melody should be clearly projected above the accompaniment, while care is needed not to let the pedal blur the resonance.
